"Community Fund for Social Change"

A community matching grants program

Please donate to Helios' granting program base fund.

Helios proudly announces the "Community Fund for Social Change", a philanthropic fund distributing grants to local non-profit groups working to secure social change.

Our goal is to do more than provide grant money. We want to increase the impact of the grants we make, broaden the base of public support for worthwhile projects, and help develop the fundraising capacity of grantees. To these ends, we will be using a “matching grant” model for the distribution of grants.

Announcing Matching Grant Increases!!

Previously, this program would match up to $250 raised by the participating organization for a total of $500. In addition to the $500 matching grant, organizations now have the additional option of raising $500 which Helios will match, for a total of $1000!

Helios will provide two separate grants per month and contribute $250 toward two organizations, or Helios will provide one grant and contribute $500 to one organization.

You can learn about the specific projects here, and contribute financial gifts directly to the project/s that you wish to support, and know that your gift has doubled because of the Helios matching funds. If an organization doesn't raise the matching total by the end of the deadline, any amount donated by the community will be released to the organization without the Helios matching funds.

Description:

The Eugene Peace Choir is requesting support for a workshop on the gospel, spiritual, and blues roots of songs of the American Civil Rights Movement. John Gainer, former U of O music professor and director of the Inspirational Sounds Gospel Choir, will give this workshop. Open to the public on a donation basis, it will take place January 9th and 10th at the First Christian Church, at 1166 Oak Street in Eugene. Workshop sessions Friday evening and Saturday during the day will be followed by a public performance on Saturday evening by participants. We intend to make a CD of the workshop, which can be used in subsequent years as a teaching tool.

Our objective is to deepen awareness of movement music, increase appreciation of its history and context, and further its use by the entire community. The Peace Choir seeks to become a community resource for this music, strengthen our relations with the community we serve, and increase our diversity.

After advertising the workshop widely, we will proceed with two workshop sessions and a public performance. We also plan to record portions of the proceedings and produce an instructional CD, which will be made available to local schools and community groups.

The outcome we anticipate is greater awareness and appreciation of movement songs within the whole Eugene community, enhanced community connections, and an increase in the ability and diversity of the choir.
